LESSON 3: PROTECTING THE HEART!

Learn HOW TO search the Bible for verses about the HEART

IN PRINT…

Learning how to use your Bible is a great skill to have as you follow Christ. Technology is awesome, but knowing how to use a Bible is so important as we continue to grow. Most adult Bibles have an INDEX in the back pages. This will be a list of important words in alphabetical order. So look in the “H” section for the word “HEART”. Once you find it, there should be a list of Bible verses that have that word in it…write some scripture references down on a piece of paper (the book of the Bible, the chapter and the verse – example: Deuteronomy 6:5), and then try to find each one. Read the verse and decide if it is talking about the HEART and is a verse you want to share with us!

ONLINE…

Technology can help us in many ways. One awesome way is how it helps us study God’s Word! There are many websites that can be used to study the Bible. There are sites that even allow us to type in a word we may be wanting to find in the Bible. It then shows us every place that word is used in God’s Word. A site I use for this is: www.openbible.info/topics/
This website will have a spot to type in the word, HEART. When you press enter, it will then show you lots of verses that are about the heart. Read them to see how they apply. You can even type in heartache and heartbreak. You can use this site to find some verses to share with us!

A MIX OF BOTH…

Technology is a blessing…but it can also stop us from picking up a Bible in our hands and learning how to use it correctly. Knowing the books of the Bible is so important to grow in your relationship with God. So an option when studying a topic in the Bible…is to mix both IN PRINT and ONLINE. The way you do this is you go to a website that allows you to search the Bible (can be the openbible.info/topics/ site, or blueletterbible.org, or even just google). Search to find verses about the heart. Write the scripture references down (example: Deuteronomy 6:5). Once you have a few written…grab your Bible and find them to read what they say. Share a few with us!

I am excited to see what verses you are able to find. Comment them below so we can all read God’s Word together and learn more about what God says about our hearts.

Guess what?! Did you know our theme verse for Route 65 Kids talks about the heart…

And you must love the LORD your God with all your HEART, all your soul, and all your strength.

Deuteronomy 6:5

This verse is why we are called ROUTE 65 – the six/five stands for the chapter/verse where it is found…Deuteronomy CH. 6 & V. 5!

FUN FACT: This is where “Loving God. Loving People.” comes from. It was originally spoken in the Old Testament (Deuteronomy 6:5 – Loving God). Jesus then references this scripture verse in the New Testament when asked, “What is the GREATEST commandment?” He starts by repeating Deuteronomy 6:5 (Loving God), and then says “the second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Loving People.). So Jesus is the one who told us the importance of “Loving God. Loving People.” Meaning…God cares about your HEART!

Let’s learn to, “LOVE the Ride, on ROUTE 65!”

LOVING GOD. LOVING PEOPLE.
