DIVE IN – Week 7

We are in a series this Summer entitled, “Dive In”. We are diving into God’s Word and seeing how we can learn about life from Scripture. We are in week 3 of our focus on family – FAMILY MATTERS! Let’s DIVE IN!

This week’s “MAILBOX” WINNER is……Evelyn Green!!! Congratulations Evelyn! You were selected from the “mailbox” as the activity sheet prize winner for this week! You can pick up your prize at church any coming Sunday…it will be located at the kids check-in. And honorable mentions go to Olivia Vicente, Elijah Longchamps, Myles Green! All three of you can also pick up a special treat at the kids check-in.

Our current theme is, “Family Matters.” This week we are going to talk about God’s desire for families to worship together!

HOW CAN A FAMILY WORSHIP GOD TOGETHER?

God wants families to worship together to help them grow stronger in their faith. Worship is essential to faith. From beginning to end, the Bible mentions worshiping God. Followers of God worshiped both in the Old Testament and the New Testament. The word WORSHIP is used 503 times in the Bible…it must be important! If God wants us to worship, and if those who lived before us showed lives that worshiped, then we should WANT to worship! And worshiping as a family is God’s desire…but what is worship? We cannot do something if we don’t know what it is – so what is worship? How would you describe it? Many people would say that worship is singing. That worship is music. That worship is what happens at the beginning of a church service.

If that is all worship is, then we simply need to come to church on time so we don’t miss the songs, and then during the week we should sit in a circle as a family and sing some songs. But…why would that be so important to God? Why does He care if we sing a song together as a family? What if my family does not have good signing voices? Does God still want us to worship together if we sound awful? And if worship is singing, then why wouldn’t God give EVERYONE a good singing voice? He WANTS us to worship, right? So why not make everyone good at singing? Or…does this mean worship is MORE than singing? Is worship more than just music being played at the beginning of a church service? Hmmmmm. Let’s take a look at what God says about true worship.

Luke 19:1-10

God’s incredible love!

WHO or WHAT do you WORSHIP?

Every day we are “worshiping”. We will naturally worship what matters most to us. So the question is: who, or what, are you worshiping?

Idols are not just gold statues that people bow down to in the Bible – idols are anything that you focus on more than God. We all have idols! Family tends to know us best…what would your family members say is your “idol” – what is most important to you? Is it a toy? A device? A friend? What would YOU say is most important to you? Sometimes we don’t realize what is most important to us…we may SAY that God and our family are most important to us, but is that really the truth? Does our life show that to be true?

Here is a way to help you search your heart and figure out what is truly most important to you (do this with your family and be honest with your answers):

TIME
What do you spend most of your time on? Be honest. How much of your time is spent on that? When you spend time on that, does bring you closer to God and make you want to live for Him more? How much of your time is spent on growing closer to God?

TALENT
When you’re really good at something it is fun to focus on it, practice it, and get better at it. What is something you are talented at that you like to do? Do you like to show this talent/skill to others? When you use your talent, does it make you think more about yourself, or does it make you think more about God? Do you honor God with your talents by bringing HIM glory, or do you just like the compliments and attention?

TALK
What do you like to talk about? What do you talk about the most? Is it something that shows love and respect for God? Is it something that relates to God and draws you closer to Him?

Talk with your family about these three areas. Ask them to answer these questions about you. Do you need to work on any of these areas? Do you have any idols in your life that cause you to worship something or someone instead of God? Your time, talent, and talk will help you answer that question. I don’t need to know your answers to these questions…although if you feel like you need help with getting better at any of these, I am always happy to talk with you 🙂 Trust me, I am not perfect at any of these either. I have to ask myself these questions every day too. But here is the deal…God already knows the honest answer to these questions…so not being truthful with yourself just continues to hurt yourself and your relationship with God. These questions are not to make you feel bad or feel guilty…these are simply for you and your family to search your heart and determine if you have been distracted from worshiping the Lord together. That is what matters most! Figure out what you need to work on, and then DO IT! God promises to forgive us…He doesn’t hold a grudge. So ask for forgiveness and work on it! Help each other worship God with your time, talent, and talk.

Have you seen people wearing masks? Do you wear a mask? Masks can remind us to worship the Lord…in EVERYTHING we do! Yes, even with our chores!

“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

Romans 12:10 (August’s Memory Verse)

Memory Verse Challenge!

Romans 12:10 is our NEW theme verse for this unit. Once again, this month’s challenge is to create your own song or hand motions to help memorize the verse. You can use a song you know and just substitute the verse words in, you can create your own melody, or you can give the verse hand motions. Get creative! Once you have your idea…record yourself (or your family) doing the verse…and share it with Pastor Vicky! We would love to share the creative videos on the blog to help others memorize the verse as well! Most creative submission wins a Chick-Fil-A milkshake (or other treat of your choosing)!

LESSON PAPERWORK – Review, Activities, & Prizes

Below are some options for you to continue the lesson from home. There is a review sheet for conversation purposes and there are grade level activity sheets as well. These are available (in print) on Sunday mornings near the Kids’ Check-In Station, and there will also be a “mailbox”. Grab one, complete it in the sanctuary, and return the completed activity sheet to the mailbox after service. You will have a chance to win prizes each week. They are available to download here in case your family is not able to return for in-person worship yet…parents can scan/text pictures of completed sheets to Pastor Vicky to be entered in the weekly prize drawing. A winner will be drawn each Monday, and if you miss a week, you can put both activity sheets (previous two lessons) in the mailbox the following Sunday. Let’s dive into God’s Word and grow together in the Lord! PS: You may need a Bible, so be sure to bring your Bible each Sunday.

DIVE IN – Week 5

We are in a series this Summer entitled, “Dive In”. We are diving into God’s Word and seeing how we can learn about life from Scripture. These next few weeks we are going to focus on family – FAMILY MATTERS! Let’s DIVE IN!

This week’s “MAILBOX” WINNER is……Lydia Green!!! Congratulations Lydia! You were selected from the “mailbox” as the activity sheet prize winner for this week! You can pick up your prize at church any coming Sunday…it will be located at the kids check-in. And honorable mentions go to Cameron Wilson, Andrew Harper, and Luke Harper! All three of you can also pick up a special treat at the kids check-in.

Our new theme is, “Family Matters.” This week we are going to talk about God’s plan for families.

WHAT IS GOD’S PLAN FOR FAMILY?

Families come in all shapes and sizes! There are so many different ways to describe family members…mom, dad, son, daughter, brother, sister, oldest, middle, youngest, grandparent, great-grandparent, aunt, uncle, nephew, niece, cousin…and that’s just a few! Do you know that FAMILY is a part of God’s plan for our lives. God intentionally put us in families. Now, that being said…do understand, there is also NO PERFECT family! We all have sin, so if families are made up of imperfect people, than no family can actually be perfect. But that is what is so awesome about God’s plan for us…He knew that! He knew no family would be perfect, because He knew no person would be perfect. So God sent Jesus to redeem us…to take what is imperfect in our life, and apply His GRACE to it so we can be redeemed…and with family, this can be done together!

So what is God’s plan for your family? What is God’s plan for you in your family? Do you know you have a purpose in your family? He put you there intentionally and He gave you a job to do! Do you know what that job is? Well, it is tough to DO a job if you don’t know what the job IS…so let’s take a look at what God says about family jobs!

Luke 19:1-10

God created family…for a reason!

Poet-trick-ally” Written

Grab a numbered dice. Toss the dice and see which number you get (1-6). Then, count down that same number of lines from the top of the poem. Next, count that same number of words in the line you stopped on. What word did you land on?
Roll the cube again and repeat.

Hiccups are a funny thing.
My hiccups make my left ear ring.
Perhaps your hiccups make you giggle.
My aunt Kay’s hiccups make her wiggle.
I would celebrate National Hiccups Day
If I could only make hiccups go away!

Do you notice a pattern? Try to write a poem that follows the same model (same pattern), except use the word FAMILY as the “landing” word in each line. The lines do not need to rhyme, but try to have each line reflect something about the biblical value of family. Then, challenge your parents to do the dice rolling/counting and see if they can figure out the pattern. If willing to share, I would love to see your poems 🙂

Have you ever made a mess? How about, have you ever messed up? The good news is that God knows we are messy…He planned for families to have HIS GRACE.
God can “BLESS OUR MESS”…we just have to ask!

“Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.”

DIVE IN – Week 6

We are in a series this Summer entitled, “Dive In”. We are diving into God’s Word and seeing how we can learn about life from Scripture. This month we are focusing on family – FAMILY MATTERS! Let’s DIVE IN!

This week’s “MAILBOX” WINNER is……MATTHEW KOTSYUBA!!! Congratulations Matthew! You were selected from the “mailbox” as the activity sheet prize winner for this week! You can pick up your prize at church any coming Sunday…it will be located at the kids check-in. And honorable mentions go to Emma Vicente, Nathaniel Kotsyuba, and Myles Green! All three of you can also pick up a special treat at the kids check-in.

Our current theme is, “Family Matters.” This week we are going to talk about caring for and protecting our family.

HOW DOES FAMILY PROVIDE CARE AND PROTECTION?

Have you ever been around a newborn baby? How do people react when a baby cries? If it is a “hurt” kind of cry, people rush to see what happened and try to console the baby. If it is a normal cry, mom may try to feed the baby or rock them to sleep. Depending on how long and how loud they are crying, others around may being to get annoyed and move to another room. Crying is actually a language for babies…it is how they communicate their needs (pain, hunger, anger, etc.). Parents and caregivers react to a baby’s cry, and a caring parent/caregiver will figure out the reason for the cry and help the baby in that way. A baby would not survive if they didn’t have someone caring for them and protecting them. God purposed parents to be the provider of that care and protection for their child.

Parents or adult caregivers are responsible for their children’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. That is how God planned it! God commands parents to protect their children, care for their children, teach their children, and disciple their children. Everyday you are learning…not only about how to live, stay healthy, and be a good friend, but also about God’s love for you and how to honor the Lord. But guess what? Your parents aren’t the only ones who care and protect and meet the needs of your family…YOU DO TOO! Let’s take a look at God’s Word and see how different family members showed God’s love, care, and protection for their family.

Luke 19:1-10

Love PROTECTS!

How to “HEART” your Family!

There are so many ways to “love” your family. Protecting them and caring for them are just a few ways! So below are some ways you can “love” your family…the letters H-E-A-R-T are missing from these ways. Every place you see a “~”, it means a letter is missing (either an H, E, A, R, or T – and sometimes more than one of them). The Bible verses can help you figure out what is missing and complete the ways to love.

~ N C O U ~ ~ G ~ (Proverbs 12:25)
W O ~ K ~ ~ ~ D (Deuteronomy 5:13)
B ~ T ~ U ~ ~ F U L (Leviticus 19:11)

DIVE IN – Week 4

We are in a series this Summer entitled, “Dive In”. We are diving into God’s Word and seeing how we can learn about life from Scripture. This first month we are learning about following Jesus’ example. Let’s DIVE IN!

This week’s “MAILBOX” WINNER is…….Olivia Vicente!!! Congratulations Liv! You were selected from the “mailbox” as the activity sheet prize winner for this week! You can pick up your prize at church any coming Sunday…it will be located at the kids check-in. And honorable mentions go to Myles Green, Evelyn Green, and Elijah Longchamps! All three of you can also pick up a special treat at the kids check-in.

Our current theme is, “Follow Jesus’ Example.” This week we are going to talk about valuing others.

WHO DOES GOD VALUE?

The word VALUE refers to the WORTH or IMPORTANCE of something or someone. Think about money…what value does a quarter have? (25 cents) What value does a dime have? (10 cents) What value does 100 pennies have? ($1) Which of those three has greater value? The pennies! Those are easy to compare because there is a set value to those items. But what about people? Can you compare the value of people? If we try to do that we may compare talents, money, jobs, etc. For instance, when I was growing up and I got hungry…in my mind, the most valuable person in my family was my mom….because she could make a much more enjoyable meal than anyone else in my home. But does that mean she was more valuable than my dad or my sisters? NO! It was just in that MOMENT she was the one who could MEET my NEED.

When we value people based on what they can do, or better yet, what they can DO for ME…that mindset can become very dangerous for many reasons. First, that means their value can change and the more talented and generous a person is, the more valuable they are. And that is just not true! Second, it also would mean that YOUR value can change and is only set by what other people THINK of you. Also, not true! So…what is our value? How do we know our value? How is it measured? The Bible says that each person is unique and of value to God! Let’s take a look at what Jesus says about our value.

Luke 19:1-10

God’s incredible love!

“Value Others” Name Game

There are so many different ways to show others their value. Sharing words of encouragement, acts of kindness, and respect are ways to let others see how much you value them. So here is a challenge for you! This is the VALUE OTHERS Name Game!

You need to write your first name on a sheet of paper, going down the side of the paper (so each letter goes underneath the letter before it – see below for my name). You then need to come up with a different way you can show “value” to someone else, by starting with each letter of your name. If you have a short first name, do both your first and last name 😉 Here is mine:

V – Visit them when they are sick
I – Invite them to play with me
C – Call them by name
K – Know what matters to them
Y – Yield to what they want to do, instead of getting my own way

F – Find ways to bless them
L – Laugh with them, NOT at them
E
– “Elbow” high-five them to prevent sharing germs 😉
C
– Cheer them up when they are sad
K
– Keep quiet when they are talking

I would love to see your ideas! Share them with my on paper or by emailing them to vfleck@greeceassembly.org. Can’t wait to see your ideas!

Quantity versus Quality – don’t assume someone is more valuable because they have more talents or own more things…
value is not defined in “quantity” (how much we have),
but instead “quality” (who we are).

“I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you.”

John 13:15 (July’s Memory Verse)

Memory Verse Challenge!

John 13:15 is our theme verse for this unit. This month’s challenge was to create your own song or hand motions to help memorize the verse. This month’s winner is…EMMA V! Great job Emma! A Bill Grey’s Oreo Milkshake is headed your way!!! We will have the same challenge next month…so get ready to get creative! Enjoy watching Emma’s submission:

BGMC: “El Salvador”

It is another month of BGMC! We are excited to continue to raise money for missions, while learning about another area of the world! I am so thankful that even though we can’t have BGMC Sunday at the church, we can still have it from HOME! God is so good! So grab your Bible and Buddy Barrel and let’s have BGMC – “El Salvador”!

Below you will see a message from Mrs. Green about El Salvador…a yummy recipe you can try…and a true missions story! Are you ready for BGMC Online?!

About BGMC

BGMC is a missions education program for kids! BGMC equips kids to know, to care, to pray, to give, and to reach the lost. We have a two-fold purpose, to reach the children of the world and to create a heart of compassion in kids. BGMC stands for, “Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge”.

Matthew 28:19-20

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

MISSIONS MOMENT – with Mrs. Green

Miracle in El Salvador

A true missionary story as experienced by the Sobey family – missionaries at King’s Castle Ministries – which started in El Salvador.

Founded in 1989, King’s Castle Ministries purposed to raise up an army of young, Spirit-filled warriors who would invade Latin America with the simple message that ‘Jesus saves and is coming soon. Today that vision has expanded to dozens of countries throughout the world. Working hand-in-hand with the local church, thousands of young men and women are giving their lives for the cause of global evangelism in the various aspects of the ministry.

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.”

James 4:10

King’s Castle Ministry was started in El Salvador…but God grew this ministry to spread to other countries around El Salvador, including Nicaragua! Do you know that our church has gone to Nicaragua multiple times on missions trips to work with King’s Castle – we have done street ministry with clowns, songs, and testimonies, and one time we did a basketball camp like Upward – using sports to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the kids and their families! Here are some pictures from some of the different missions trips to King’s Castle.

PRAYER POINTS FOR THIS MONTH:

  • Pray for our missionaries and for the church leaders in El Salvador.
  • Pray for the kids of El Salvador and for their families, that they would learn to serve God together.
  • Pray that gang members and drug addicts would know Jesus’ love and be set free.
  • Pray for the thousands of students in the Bible schools, that as they become pastors and missionaries – God would use them to spread the Gospel around the world!

Winnie’s Wecipes:
Pupusas!

BGMC BLESSES EL SALVADOR

SCRIPTURE PICTURE”

Can you recite the verse (James 4:10) by using these picture clues to figure out the words?

For example, if we take a look at the first clue we get the sound HUM from hummingbird and the word BELL – say them together and you get the word: HUMBLE. Give it a shot! 🙂

HINT: Use the word “oar” instead of “paddle”, and when you see a minus symbol with a letter it means take that letter out of the word

31IN31 BUDDY BARREL CHALLENGE

This month we have a challenge for you: $31 in 31 days! There are 31 days in August…can you raise $31 for BGMC? Offer to do yardwork for a neighbor, host a bake sale or lemonade stand, ask your parents about some extras jobs around the house…get creative! We are hoping to do a BGMC Fun Day Event on August 31 – how awesome would it be for each of us to bring our $31 that day and be able to impact the world with the Gospel – through the ministry of BGMC! Together, can we raise over $1000 this month? Be sure to watch the entire video – there is some incentive 😉

BGMC this Sunday: Empty your Buddy Barrel and get this month’s handouts!

Have you enjoying learning about other countries, missionaries, and how God is working through us? We have a BGMC area set up at church – it is located where the self check-in station used to be (across from the main Kids’ Check-In). There is a BGMC poster with a handout about El Salvador and the Summer Bible Reading Challenge log sheets. Be sure to grab one of each! There is also going to be a bucket there this Sunday – for you to empty your Buddy Barrels! Hope you have been able to put some spare change in that bank of yours…I can’t wait to empty mine this Sunday!

We look forward to continuing to grow together!

Much love and care,

Pastor Vicky & Mrs. Green

DIVE IN – Week 3

We have started a series this Summer entitled, “Dive In”. We are diving into God’s Word and seeing how we can learn about life from Scripture. The first 4 weeks we are learning about following Jesus’ example. Let’s DIVE IN!

This week’s “MAILBOX” WINNER is……ELIJAH LONGCHAMPS!!! Congratulations Elijah! You were selected from the “mailbox” as the activity sheet prize winner for this week! You can pick up your prize at church any coming Sunday…it will be located at the kids check-in. And honorable mentions go to Emma Vicente, Jamie Schramm, Emily Klepanchuk and Lydia Green! All four of you can also pick up a special treat at the kids check-in.

Our current theme is, “Follow Jesus’ Example.” This week we are going to talk about God’s love.

HOW BIG IS GOD’S LOVE?

What is love? Love is a word that can be difficult to define because we use it for so many different things. I love chocolate. I love my mom. I love Jesus. I love you. Does love mean the same thing in all of those statements? No! You don’t love chocolate the same way you love your mom (at least you better not). And we say we love Jesus most, but do our actions always show it? Or do we show more love for chocolate than Jesus…more focused on ourselves (our own wants/desires) than on Jesus? Love can seem hard to describe…and if it is hard to describe, it can be even harder to understand. This is really important, because if we don’t know what love is then how can we ever really live it out? Jesus commanded us to LOVE…so we better figure this out!

Do you know that Jesus is the reason we can know what love is? When Jesus laid down His life for us, He taught us everything we need to know about love. Love is self-sacrificing (giving of yourself), generous (doesn’t keep a record), unconditional (shown no matter what someone else does or doesn’t do), and unending (never stops). God’s love for the world shows us that love is also undeserving — Jesus laid down his life for the entire WORLD. Does the world deserve the love of Jesus? Do YOU deserve the love of Jesus? Let’s take a look at a time where Jesus showed love to someone who definitely didn’t deserve it.

Luke 19:1-10

God’s incredible love!

How do you MEASURE UP?

Did you know there are many different ways to measure things? For example: You can measure how long something is with feet and inches. You can measure liquids in ounces and cups. You can measure how long something takes using time. So let’s see how well you measure…complete the following measurement questions. See if your family will complete them as well and have fun comparing your measurements! I did each of them too…so after you complete all your measurements, you can compare them to mine as well 🙂
(you will need a ruler, measuring tape, and stopwatch)

  1. How wide is your Bible?
  2. How wide can you spread your fingers?
  3. How long is your shoe?
  4. How long can you hold your breath?
  5. How fast can you run a 40-yard dash?
  6. How fast can you say the alphabet?
  7. How high can you jump? (height of something you can jump onto)
  8. What is your height?
  9. Find and read Ephesians 3:17-19 – How wide, long, deep and high is God’s love?

PASTOR VICKY’S ANSWERS TO THE ABOVE QUESTIONS:
1.
5.75 inches 2. 8.75 inches 3. 11.375 inches 4. 62 seconds
5. 6.07 seconds 6. 0.17 seconds 7. 30 inches 8. 5ft 8in.
9. Immeasurable – too wide, too long, too deep, and too high to measure

Opposites! God’s love can often feel opposite to what we naturally WANT to do. Guess what?! That is normal! But it cannot be an excuse to not live out God’s love and share it with the world!

“I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you.”

John 13:15 (July’s Memory Verse)

Memory Verse Challenge!

John 13:15 is our theme verse for this unit. This month’s challenge…create your own song or hand motions to help memorize the verse. Most creative submission wins a Chick-Fil-A milkshake (or other dessert of your choosing)!

Our theme for July is, “Follow Jesus’ Example.” This week we are going to talk about God’s will.

WHAT IS GOD’S WILL?

God’s will” means, “God’s perfect plan for His creation – for each person.” Have you planned for something? Maybe you worked with your parent to plan a play-date with a friend? Or you planned to do something special for your birthday? Or maybe your family planned a vacation? Have you ever planned to do something…and then plans changed? We can plan to play outside and then all of a sudden it starts raining. We can plan with a friend to get together, but when you ask your parents they say no. You plan to go on vacation and then you get sick. Plans can change for many reasons. Well…have your plans ever changed because someone came up with a BETTER plan?

Did you know God has a plan for you? He has a plan for each and every person. And let me tell you…God’s plan is the ABSOLUTE BEST plan for your life. Now, this doesn’t mean His plan is always our FAVORITE plan…but that is only because we don’t always see the WHOLE plan. I will explain more about that in my video. But God has a plan for YOUR life! And just like God has a plan for your life, He also had a plan for JESUS’ life. Yes, even Jesus had to trust God’s plan for HIS life. And guess what?! Even JESUS struggled at times to fully trust God’s plan. Let’s DIVE IN and take a deeper look!

Based on Matthew 26, Mark 14, & Luke 22

John 13:15 is our theme verse for July. This month’s challenge…create your own song or hand motions to help memorize the verse. BGMC: “Global Initiative”

It is another month of BGMC! We are excited to continue to raise money for missions, while learning about another area of the world! I am so thankful that even though we can’t have BGMC Sunday at the church, we can still have it from HOME! God is so good! So grab your Bible and Buddy Barrel and let’s have BGMC – “Global Initiative”!

Below you will see a message from Mrs. Green about Global Initiative…a yummy recipe you can try…information about an awesome comic book series for your family! Are you ready for BGMC Online?!

But first, Pastor Vicky must keep her promise from last month’s BGMC Challenge

At last month’s BGMC Drive-Thru, families got to vote on a “food” word written in Bislama (the language of Vanuatu). Whatever word got the most votes, Pastor Vicky agreed she would eat the item it translated to… well, the word that won was “sadin” – which in English means, SARDINES! (small, oily fish!) Another word on the list was “joklet”, which means chocolate! Pastor Vicky was wondering why you couldn’t have voted more for that word?! But she held true to her promise…enjoy!

Green

Here is some more information about the Muslim people, through Sarah & Salifa – click the link and enjoy reading and learning about what Muslim’s believe, the differences and similarities between Islam and Christianity, and the “Five Pillars of Islam”.

PRAYER POINTS FOR THIS MONTH:

  • Pray for Muslims in the USA, that they would be open to hearing about God’s Son, Jesus, and that they would accept Him.
  • Pray for people in countries where they cannot freely hear about Jesus, that they would find ways to learn of His love.
  • Pray for Christians who live and work among Muslims, that they would have chances to tell them about the true God.
  • Pray for Muslims who have chosen to follow Jesus, that God would keep them safe.

BGMC BLESSES GLOBAL INITIATIVE

BGMC funds are used to hold Muslim Awareness Seminars that train people how to share the love of Jesus with Muslims. These seminars are held in the U.S. and all over the world. BGMC sponsored the “Forever Friends” kids’ curriculum to help kids reach Muslim kids right here in the United States (more information about this curriculum below). The “Say Hello” materials were created with BGMC funds. This program teaches women how to be open to Muslim women in order to show them the love of Jesus.

Say HELLO – Forever Friends…

A special comic book set – made to help you say hello!

The goal of these comic books is to help kids grow in their understanding of courageous evangelism, and see many people will come to know Jesus. Jesus’ command to His followers before He returned to heaven was: “Go into all the world and make disciples.” Evangelizing people unlike us can seem intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Every day is rich with opportunity to obey Jesus’ command. A kind “hello” is the simple, first step of friendship leading to evangelism.

The five lessons will help kids discover how Jesus modeled friendship and will guide them in making Christlike friendships with Muslim kids and others. Also, by learning more about Muslim friends, Christian kids come to better understand their own faith.

“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”

Matthew 28:19

The principles learned through Say Hello can be equally applied to any new friend who doesn’t know Jesus.

Each session focuses on a step of the “HELLO” prayer acronym. This acronym will help you easily remember how to pray and plan for opportunities to share Jesus with others. This prayer builds from Comic book 1 through 5.

BGMC Take-It-Home: Get your family’s comic book set and other handouts!

Have you enjoying learning about other countries, missionaries, and how God is working through us? We have a BGMC area set up at church – it is located where the self check-in station used to be (across from the main Kids’ Check-In). There is a BGMC poster with a handout about Global Initiative and the Summer Bible Reading Challenge log sheets. Be sure to grab one of each! And for the next several weeks there will also be the “Say HELLO – Forever Friends” comic book sets for your family to pick up (one set per family please). The set of five comic books will help encourage you in to pray for others and start a friendship in which you can share the love of Jesus with them. If your family is not yet able to attend on Sunday mornings, you can stop by during the week to grab yours.

We look forward to continuing to grow together!

Much love and care,

Pastor Vicky & Mrs. Green

DIVE IN – Week 1

We are going to be starting a new series this Summer entitled, “Dive In”. We are going to be diving into God’s Word and seeing how we can learn about life from Scripture. In July we will be learning about following Jesus’ example, and in August we will discuss why family matters. So…are you ready? Let’s DIVE IN!

Our theme for July is, “Follow Jesus’ Example.” This week we are going to talk about temptation.

WHAT IS TEMPTATION?

Temptation is “a desire to do something, especially something wrong or unwise.” Have you ever opened a package of cookies and wanted to eat every single one? You are TEMPTED to eat all the cookies. Has someone ever bothered you (a friend, a brother, a sister, a parent) and you wanted to do or say something mean back to them? You are TEMPTED to respond in anger. Have you ever done something wrong and you try and figure out how you can hide it to try and get away with it? You are TEMPTED to lie.

We ALL deal with temptation…every day. The interesting thing about temptation is that you have a CHOICE. Just because you are TEMPTED doesn’t mean you HAVE to do it. You can be TEMPTED to eat all the cookies, but with self-control you can CHOOSE not to. You can be TEMPTED to respond in anger to someone bugging you, but you CHOOSE to respond with grace. You can be TEMPTED to lie and cover up your mistakes, but you can CHOOSE to be honest and accept the consequences on your actions.

Did you know even Jesus was tempted? Can you believe it? And Jesus was without sin…He lived a sinless life. Temptation is not the sin…choosing to give into the temptation can lead to sin. So if Jesus was tempted and He lived a sinless life…maybe we should take a look at how He conquered temptation and chose to honor God in the midst of temptation. Let’s take a look!

Based on Matthew 4:1-11

TEMPTATION/BIBLE CHALLENGE

God has given us the greatest tool to help us obey and resist temptation – The BIBLE! Below are five yellow TEMPTATIONS and give blue SCRIPTURES. The challenge is to match the temptation with the correct verse that would help defeat that temptation. So you would write down the letters A, B, C, D, E (found in the corner of each yellow box) and then next to each letter put the number from the corner of the blue box that has the correct scripture for that temptation. Give it a try!!

ANSWERS ARE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE – SCROLL DOWN WHEN FINISHED WITH YOUR GUESSES.

Do you dive into water? Do you like to wear certain things when you do? What can we dive into to defeat temptation?

“I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done for you.”

SUMMER KIDS – “Dive In” & BGMC

We are going to be starting a new series this Summer entitled, “Dive In”. We are going to be “diving into” God’s Word and seeing how we can learn about life from Scripture. In July we will be learning about following Jesus’ example, and in August we will discuss why family matters.

SOME THINGS TO KNOW FOR THE SUMMER SERIES “Dive In”:

  • Weekly Online Lessons – There will a new lesson each week posted online!
  • Sunday Connections – Every Sunday there will be paperwork near the Kids’ Check-In counter, these are for you to take and complete
  • Digital Versions – Maybe your family is unable to return for in-person worship yet, no worries! The paperwork will able to included at the end of each online lesson for your family to download.
  • Weekly PRIZES – Each week we will draw one winning entry (completed lesson sheet that has been submitted). It will be a random drawing – meaning we will mix up the sheets and our eyes will be closed when we grab one. The winner will get a prize of some kind!
  • How to “Submit” your prize entry – There will be a “mailbox” near the kids check in area. Each week’s lesson will have a grade level activity sheet. You must complete your grade level’s sheet (K-3rd Grade & 4th-6th Grade) and insert it in the mailbox. You can grab your sheet before service, and submit it after service. If your family is not yet attending in-person worship services, you can download the activity sheet, complete it at home, and have your parents email (vfleck@greeceassembly.org) or text a picture of the completed sheet. I will make a print out with your name on it…and add you to the mailbox before we draw the winner.
  • If you miss a week – Catch up! You can catch up by watching the lessons you have missed, complete those activity sheets, and submit them together. You must watch the lesson to be qualified to complete and submit the activity sheet. And this is based on the “honor system”…that simply means, I am trusting you to be honest 🙂 Complete the lesson before completing the sheet.
  • Online Posts – the goal is to post each lesson on Monday or Tuesday of that week. Sometimes unexpected things come up and the lesson may not post until later in the week…but our goal is to have each new week up on Mondays/Tuesdays…which will give you almost an entire week to do the lesson before next Sunday’s church service.
  • Memory Verse Challenge – I also challenge you to memorize the theme verse for each unit. July’s theme verse is John 13:15…so you have all of July to work on this!
  • Questions? Let me know if you have any questions! You can post them below on this page, or you can email me (Pastor Vicky) at: vfleck@greeceassembly.org

BGMC – THIS SUMMER!

We are so excited for this Sunday, July 12, as we will be highlighting our July BGMC in the MAIN SERVICE in the Sanctuary! There will be a special video about this month’s focus – so be sure to attend or tune in online with your family!

Here is a sneak peak at this month’s BGMC focus. We will be learning about, “Global Initiative” – a ministry that offers numerous resources, free of charge, to create a deeper awareness and understanding of Muslim people. The goal? To reach Muslims with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Join us in prayer today, that souls would be saved!

We also have a few other summer BGMC things going on:

  • BGMC Monthly Post – We will be posting about this month’s BGMC focus next week. Be on the lookout for it, to learn more about Muslim people, as well as how to love them and pray for them. We will even have some awesome comic books available soon…that help teach us how to say hello to Muslims – befriending those who don’t know Jesus and learning how to share the love of Jesus Christ with them.
  • BGMC Bible Reading Challenge – watch the video below for more information! There will be challenge sheets available at the Kids Check In this Sunday…but you can also download it below.
  • Buddy Barrel Collection – We will send out a date of when we will collect Buddy Barrels for the summer…so keep doing your best to collect change in your Buddy Barrel! We raised over $300 at the BGMC Drive Thru last month! Great job everyone!
  • Pastor Vicky eats Sardines!!! – Be looking our for our BGMC lesson for this month…it will post next week. Included in the lesson will be a video of Pastor Vicky eating sardines. Yep…they are little fish in a can! If you wonder why she is doing this, it is because last month at the BGMC Drive Thru, those who attended got to vote on a “food word” from Vanuatu – and the deal was that Pastor Vicky would eat whatever word got the most votes. Well…”sadin” got the most votes…and that just so happens to mean, “Sardines” in English. So you won’t want to miss that video!

Check out this Summer BGMC Bible Reading Challenge – You can raise money for BGMC, just by reading your BIBLE! Take a look!

You can pick up a Bible Reading Challenge Sheet (to log the chapters you read) at the Kids’ Check In Area on Sunday morning. If your family is not yet able to return for in-person worship services, no worries! Click the “Download” button below to download the log sheet from home 🙂 Remember, every chapter read is worth a dime! Let’s get reading!

LOOKING FORWARD TO OUR SUMMER TOGETHER!

Much love and care,
Pastor Vicky
